The Emperor Chronicles
or My Private Journey to the Pinnacle of the Business World.
Well, for better or worse, it happened. I won the contest to be the CEO of TimTech.
For the next week, I will write my impressions and thoughts about the process right here. My regular blog will resume presently.
Fear and Loathing in Yuma:
I was watching the TE Live spreecast on Friday, January 3 with about 40 of my closest friends when Jon Olsen announced that I had won the contest to become the next CEO of TimTech. I was bumfoozled (the word is for Nick Grimshawe) and wasn’t quite sure how to react.
Of course, I was elated. I had done a fair amount of work toward this moment, it’s always good when good work and a plan bear fruit. But…
I was also frightened. Geeze, what if I’m forever to be known as ‘the guy that wrecked TimTech’? What if I’m such a bumbler that I am forever branded a fraud? What if all the TT guys and gals hate me by this time next week? I mean, these people are really important to me…
So, I sat there, oscillating between elation and the feeling that I had just stepped off a cliff. Where do we go from here? Fortunately, Jon invited me on camera, and my friend Patrick Griffith interviewed me with some real softball questions. I was at least able to get my feet back under me…
I’d be lying if I told you that I had thought of much else for the 12 hours since. I don’t know about you, but I have the little voice in me that says ‘why bother, you can’t do that’ or ‘it’s not even worth trying, you aren’t qualified’. I spent at least a couple of hours giving that guy the neener neener.
So, here I am. Emperor of TimTech. Or at least I will be on Monday morning. Where do we go from here? I am simply not sure.
I need to go get my coronation robe fitted. I will be back tomorrow with more of my thoughts and ideas.
Could be my shortest blog post ever.
I’m just sayin’
