To Do or not To Do

Just Do ItErica Jackson (LaRoss) kicked me in the butt today, and didn’t even know it. Actually, she wasn’t the only one, but….

Be a Doer

That seemed to be the topic in a couple of the Skype rooms that I frequent. Sometimes written ‘just dewit’ or ‘’ship it then fix it”. The advice was for other people, but it was exactly what I needed to hear. I have filled up half a notebook with great ideas for blog posts, but until I actually sit down with my fingers in contact with the keyboard they never seem to get written. How can that be? I have some GREAT ideas…

But just like every project, an idea without action is worse than nothing. Left alone for enough time an idea can actually become a drag on your productive ability. You have to dream, but dreaming is the enemy of doing.

Do it. Do it right NOW

Of course it would have been better to have started yesterday, but today is so much better than tomorrow. I know you have important surf commitments (I certainly do) and there are chats and skype rooms that would probably dry up completely if I weren’t there. How else could I possibly express my great knowledge and ideas? Really?

If it’s a big project, just do something. Make yourself a list indicating what is next, and do the next thing. Right now is a great time. If it’s a simple thing like this blog post (never simple. It always takes longer than I planned by a factor of 3) just sitting down to the keyboard is a wonderful start. Sitting won’t get it written, but it will get me A LOT closer to a finished post than surfing.

It just gets down to what I have heard thousands of times. Just get it done. No excuses, no reasons, just one possible result. GET IT DONE.

Those that Can Do

The previously mentioned Erica Jackson has written a fine E book on the care and feeding of Facebook, Twitter and LinkdIn. It is available right here for the price of signing up to Erica’s list. A most reasonable transaction, I learned a whole bunch in just one reading. It’s carefully set up, so if you can’t read the whole 21 pages at a sitting you can get the full impact of the individual sections. No more excuses. I recommend it highly.

Scott Wright has started a video and voice service, see about it here. Scott has a great voice for video work, and has taken the action to make himself available to others in and out of the community. In simple words, he took action. What a concept.

Russell Stockley has started a new webinar series called Fresh four nights per week at 8:00 PM EDT. It has a different topic every day, all pertinent to our industry. List Building, Design, Branding and Marketing are each covered in some aspect on the appropriate day of the week. Russell is in the midst of the third week of Fresh, you can get in on the ground floor. You will be able to say “I knew him before…”

So there are three people that have done the doing instead of waiting. It’s never easy, but always so satisfying.

I’m just sayin’

Is Branding the new Currency?

This post, written by John Brewer, was originally published on the Lucky 13 Blog October 9, 2014.  Used by permission of the author.  It is reprinted exactly except for some very minor formatting differences.  Enjoy it, I did.

In our Click Track Profit training we learn a lot branding.
Heck, Jon Olson has beaten us upside the head with the topic
at TELive for quite some time now. The question is…. are we listening?

We learn how important it is to get people to Know, Like and Trust us.
This – contrary to what some may believe, involves more than just
slapping a profile picture on a splash page. It’s about who we are and what we represent.
Well, at least that what it should be about.

When we advertise things online we – whether we think so or not, are establishing our
online REPUTATION. The “R” word an important word in Internet Marketing folks.
Let’s take it seriously.

I saw an interesting report on CNN a little while back about branding.

Here is the link to it:
http://edition.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/business/2014/07/28/spc-future-finance-branded-currency.cnn.html

This guy makes some very interesting points. What’s REALLY interesting is that he is not
some kind of “finance guy.” He is an “ad man” as he puts it.

Pay attention to what the “ad man” says about trustworthiness.

He also mentions a very important fact – Brands Stand Or Fall By Their Reputation.
There I go using the “R” word again – lol.

Brand Reputation

He then goes on to say that reputation has now become a currency and that loyalty is now
a Micro-Economy.

Now, put your thinking caps on for a minute. Can you think of a kind of new micro-economy that has been created in TimTech land? Well.. it starts with an “X” and ends with a “P.”

I found the correlation from what the ad dude was saying and what TimTech has been doing lately very interesting to say the least.

As you take a look at the clip put your Marketing “thinking caps” on.
Have we REALLY been paying full attention to what Jon and Patrick have been trying to
teach us on TELive?

Well…. maybe we should.

Till next time folks!

Saturday Shortstop: Dick Groat

Dick Groat

Dick Groat was a truly great athlete who sometimes gets lost in the welter of great shortstops. He didn’t have great speed or a particularly strong arm, but he was always in the right place at the right time. Probably one of the best all time at positioning himself for the hitter based on the pitcher and what he was throwing. He was league MVP, won several batting titles, always led the league in putouts and assists. Right place, right time.

Look. Really. If you are going to advertise the “I made a million, you can too” scheme, DON’T USE A CHEAPO FREE SERVICE TO MAKE YOUR SPLASH PAGE. Really. If you made a million why not spend the $10.00 for a professional splash? Just a hint. No charge.

Speaking of Splash Pages, what’s up with those pages that have the little bitty rectangle of words in the top left corner of the page? If I can’t see it, the chances are pretty darn slim that I am going to click on it. Wasted credits at best.

And don’t, DO NOT promote somebody elses’ page. I can’t believe the number of pages I see in rotation that are promoted by one person with another person’s picture in it. Jeeze, put your own picture in it. PLEASE.

There are just a load of new programs in TE Land. I am going to do a product review once a week for at least a couple of months to catch up with the new and improved part of the business. Current plan is for Thursday. Pending change and my normal confusion…

Dick Groat was a gifted athlete who was a college all american at Duke in baseball and basketball. He is the only man to be in both the College Baseball and Basketball Halls of Fame. Legendary for being in the right place at the right time. A pretty good business model, too.

I’m just sayin’
