The Emperor Chronicles

or   My Private Journey to the Pinnacle of the Business World.

Well, for better or worse, it happened.  I won the contest to be the CEO of TimTech.

For the next week, I will write my impressions and thoughts about the process right here. My regular blog will resume presently.

Wonderful Wednesday.

This is going to be a mixed bag, yesterday was wound up with Emperor duties and launch duties for TrackeryMe.  Made for an exciting day to say the very least…

Let me say this plainly:  There is no better team to have behind you on a product launch than the TT team.  From early yesterday morning and right through TE Live they were helpful and supportive.  I’m sure being the Emperor had something to do with it, but this is a genuinely helpful group, and they contributed greatly to my ‘first day’ success.

For the record, as of right now, TrackeryMe  has 189 new members, and TimTech has referred 145.  WooHoo, thanks guys!!

I really wasn’t too involved yesterday, I was busy going crazy over the launch.  I needn’t have worried, Sunny Suggs had it handled.  What I did get to see was some of the personalities at TT.  The people behind the pictures, as it were.  Once again, I was amazed at how the various people mesh in everyday situations.  That whole crew gets a ton of work done, in close (electronic) proximity with good grace and humor.  Not that nobody gets mad, or expresses frustration, or has problems, all those happen.  The whole theory seems to be “OK.  Let’s just fix it and move on.”  and then do so.

I was a huge fan of TT before this started.  My appreciation for each person and the company has grown significantly through this experience.  Wow.

For those of you who missed TELive yesterday, it was perhaps the most memorable ever.  We got to see, live and on camera, Jon perform personal grooming.  The archive doesn’t exist, you will have to take my word for it.  Memorable!

One more thing to note for today.  Jon has written a scathing post at Hit Exchange News (HEN).  I don’t know about you, but I will make NB forum part of my daily routine for the next month or so.  It’s not like I didn’t believe Jon all along, I just had all kinds of reasons…make that excuses.  So, I may make a fool of myself, but that will certainly not be the first time.  Thanks Jon.

Thanks to one and all for the success of the TrackeryMe launch.  I really appreciated it.

Takeoff Tuesday

24 hours into my reign as Emperor of TimTech.  What have I learned??

For one thing, the pace and the pulse of this place is incredible.  Even when it is quiet and calm looking there is a lot happening!  This is a pretty well oiled team, that functions well together.  I was seriously impressed at the volume of work and the camaraderie that is just natural with them.

Humor is a huge part of the deal.  Lots of of giggles throughout the day.  Shared angst and anger is part of it too.  They fire each other up, and go like crazy.  Pretty impressive.

I was able to contribute a small part to the day.  After I ate lunch, I did the absolutely normal thing for me, took a short nap.  The bad news (good news for most) is that I did so on a TT skype call.  Tim even made a badge from a picture of the Emperor sleeping!  Some time today we will figure out how to award this uber exclusive badge.  Watch for your chance!

On a personal note, my new site is launching today at 2:00 pm EST.  Yes there will be a spreecast, yes we will have some fun.  Yes, I am nervous, but I just can’t think of a better crew to have at my back.  Let’s do this deal!

24 hours.  Not very long.  I have learned a ton, and have months worth of contemplation about what I have seen and heard.  What a great ride so far!!

Manic Monday

It’s begun.  I wasn’t online for 2 minutes when Jon and Justin grabbed me, showed me the secret handshake and showed me the back door to the palace.  They haven’t given me the key to the front door yet, but I’m sure it’s just an oversight…

Dr. Clixhas launched, a new PTC from (doc) John Novak.  Squarely backed by TimTech.  My first official order as Emperor would be to check it out right now…Right Here!

I was actually up early this morning.  With all the anticipation of Christmas morning when I was 6.  I usually meditate for at least half an hour every day, that shortened up some, I didn’t even get my second cup of coffee until after the coronation.  Wow.  Things move really fast at this level.

Prioritizing.  Today is all about doing what I need to do next.  My time and timing is already off my normal pace, there are added things that need to be done right now if not sooner.  This emperor stuff is not all relaxing by the pool, I’m telling you!!

This is pretty weird for me, writing for my blog the same day I post.  I have done it a lot for the badge hunt blogs, but this goes on mine.  Normally I have it written 24 hours before I post.

Sluggish Sunday

A little over 24 hours until I am the CEO of TimTech.  On the surface not much to do, and not much to be done…

I have a full page of notes that I want to ask about.  Have some ideas on ‘deals’ to offer, and truly do know enough to ‘stay out of the way’ of the customer service aspect of TT.  Really, those guys and gals have plenty to do keeping the customers happy, the certainly don’t need me to muddy up the water…

So it’s all thought and thinking for today, I’ll roll up my sleeves and dive in tomorrow morning!  I’m looking forward to it.

I told you that this might be my shortest post ever:)

Fear and Loathing in Yuma:

I was watching the TE Live spreecast on Friday, January 3 with about 40 of my closest friends when Jon Olsen announced that I had won the contest to become the next CEO of TimTech.  I was bumfoozled (the word is for Nick Grimshawe) and wasn’t quite sure how to react.

Of course, I was elated.  I had done a fair amount of work toward this moment, it’s always good when good work and a plan bear fruit.  But…

I was also frightened.  Geeze, what if I’m forever to be known as ‘the guy that wrecked TimTech’?  What if I’m such a bumbler that I am forever branded a fraud?   What if all the TT guys and gals hate me by this time next week?  I mean, these people are really important to me…

So, I sat there, oscillating between elation and the feeling that I had just stepped off a cliff.  Where do we go from here?  Fortunately, Jon invited me on camera, and my friend Patrick Griffith interviewed me with some real softball questions.  I was at least able to get my feet back under me…

I’d be lying if I told you that I had thought of much else for the 12 hours since.  I don’t know about you, but I have the little voice in me that says ‘why bother, you can’t do that’  or ‘it’s not even worth trying, you aren’t qualified’.  I spent at least a couple of hours giving that guy the neener neener.

So, here I am.  Emperor of TimTech.  Or at least I will be on Monday morning.  Where do we go from here?  I am simply not sure.

I need to go get my coronation robe fitted.  I will be back tomorrow with more of my thoughts and ideas.

Could be my shortest blog post ever.

Winners and Losers Again

Winners and Losers AgainWinners and Losers Road Sign

Happy New Year!!

I know that it was last year when I began this column, but I really hope you can remember it.  I try to find the winners and losers for 2013.

Current Stuff

TimTech.  Began the year on what I thought was a pretty good roll, great products, great service, great ownership.  During 2013 they introduced ListNerds, Nerdbux, and Rocket Responder.  All three are industry leaders, how much better does it get than that?  We can just wait and see.

Status:  Winner

JimTech.  As in NerdClix by JimTech.  Loser.  An incredibly brash copy of a company and a product by an obviously inferior product and company.  This is plagiarism and copyright violation taken to the extreme.

Status:  Huge Loser

All of my Links.  A long running program from Sunny Suggs.  I got into it early last year, and can’t believe how much I use it.  I just keep putting stuff in there, and AOML just keeps it in order and easy to find.  I just happen to know she has a sale on right now, too.

Status:  Winner

Combined Banner Pages.  Ugh.  Please let them stop.  I have counted as many as 96 banners on a single page.  Really.  Please, advertise one thing at a time.  Please.  The only one making money off these are the programmers that sell them….

Status:  Loser

Legacy.  Another company that has taken off like a rocket.  Brand Me Tool, Legacyclix, Legacy Team Co op, Cash Surfing Network (with Eric Goetman) all new this year from a well established company with a reputation for service and quality.

Status:  Winner

Serial Viral Launch People.  Carl Reising launched several TEs this year, 2 in December alone.  Matthew Graves launched 3 mailers, but he folded the first two and left his customers holding the bag…

Status:  Loser

The good news?  There are way more winners than losers.  The rest here are winners of note.

TERL.  Traffic Exchange Racing League.  Always one of my favorite places to play, Robert Arnold has put a brand new look on the place for a brand new year.  Very nice.

List Build Surf  John Novak and his buddy Leo have a great TE going, and John has started to share his knowledge and techniques in a book and articles.  Always a winner!

Eric Goetman.  In fact, make that the Goetman family, along with brother Daniel and father Ed, Eric is building a nice empire of extremely good products.  New this year are Cash Surfing Network, PTC Professor, $100 Bribe and more.  EG rocks.

Learn with Nick.  Nick Grimshawe just crushed his CTP stand aside program in 2013.  It is really an interactive site, so the crushing continues.  Wonderful program.

You.  Right here, right now is the time to decide that you will be on the winners list for next year.  It is not out of the reach of anyone, plan and write your goals and aspirations, then make them happen!

And in the End

There could have been hundreds on the winner’s list.  I’m thinking you and I should both be on it next year.  What a great ride 2013 was!
